Is that for real? How are there no real color choices there?

Honda Accord was/is terrible with color choices. I think you got white, black and 50 shades of grey.

Anything remotely upscale (or pretending so) is like that

Plus Dodge color names are fun too.

Maximum Steel
Go Mango
Redline
Destroyer Gray
Plum Crazy

and my personal favorite:

Contusion Blue

Yeah it’s a sad state of affairs in most of the automotive world. The fiesta ST used to have 8 different color options. Now there is white, black, gray, and pumpkin spice (not joking, it is called “orange spice” and looks like that yellowy pumpkin orange)

Yes, that’s for real for most manufacturers nowadays.

Sometimes the luxury manufacturers will let you custom order a custom color, but you’re gonna pay out the ass for it, and can’t get the car off the lot.

Interesting colors are harder to sell, which translates into reduced resale value, which makes them even harder to sell, which makes dealers not want to stock them. The exceptions are cars that are in-your-face loud (like the Chrysler offerings), and cheap cars (which have no resale value anyway, and the color doesn’t make a difference).

Unless you’re Dodge, because every Challenger / Charger I see is a different color. Gotta love it.

Say what you want about Dodges and quality (mine’s fantastic), but you gotta give them credit for actually trying to be FUN. I’d rather drive a car that’s somewhat cheap in quality but makes up for it in sheer joy than some expensive, ‘sophisticated’ car that has all the personality of drywall.

Interestingly, I’ve read that interesting colors actually depreciate less, yellow and orange holding the most value: https://www.today.com/money/car-colors-best-resale-value-it-s-not-black-or-t101509 I assume, however, that this is something of a function of them being rare in the first place and people looking for something like Phoenix Yellow E46 M3's and the various special edition NA and NB Miatas.

Fun Fact:

Back in 1970, before Plum Crazy was introduced, they actually wanted to call it, and I’m not joking, “Statutory Grape”.

On the plus side they actually seemed to listen to criticism that the manual transmission sedan was only available in the black and dark gray and now offer it in red and white at least.

An interesting color on an interesting car will probably sell fast, but an interesting color on a normal car will likely sell slow (especially on a dealer lot), and therefore time value of money means that it costs more to sell an interesting color, ultimately hurting value.

I think I’ve heard that name before. Certainly would have gotten attention for the crazy name, but possibly a little too close to home for the people who’d buy that color of Challenger...

Ford kept up too, they had Anti Establish Mint, There She Blue, Freudian Gilt, etc.

Color selection is actually better the lower you go in BMW - the 2 and 3 series have more interesting colors than the 6 and 7 series (and if you want an i8 that’s not white, you’re screwed)

Oh but that Long Beach Blue...

I think BMW just saves all their cool colors for the M cars, which makes sense when you consider that most people driving M cars probably want to be seen.

To the point where I’m seriously considering a Challenger for my next car, even though I’ve loved the Mustangs I’ve owned, and FCA has a really poor reputation.

I have a theory that American manufacturers know how to build large V8 powered RWD cars and trucks. It’s what they’ve been focusing on since the 50s.
